Marvel Sets I am targeting for 2024
Marvel is not a popular theme amongst investors in recent years, theme has been an underperformer. However, there are the few that have done well in recent years - Carnage & Venom head and Thor’s Hammer. Today, I am going to share a few sets that I will be monitoring this year from the current retirement list. I believe these have the most potential out of 20+ set to retire Dec 2024.
Star-Lord’s helmet 76251
Target exclusive. If you know me, I love going after the exclusives. Especially for this Marvel subset of helmet/head themes. Venom and Carnage helmets have been doing well (carnage being an exclusive). Target has a deal of 20% off at the time of writing this that is very tempting. Guardian of the Galaxy appears to have ended (for now). Let’s see how Marvel turns things around in their cinematic universe and how it will impact these sets.
Venomised Groot 76249
Subjective but this looks awesome. I have reason to believe we haven’t seen the end of Venom in the cinematic universe yet. This set is doing well on Amazon (2k sold, 3k BSR) and I hope it continues as the year progresses. Regularly found at 20% off, I’m going to need it in the lower 30s to feel confident with my investment.
I am Groot 76217
Fans love Groot and its insane. Could be interesting to pair these two sets together to sell later. Will be interesting to see these two perform into retirement. I’m sure we’ll see Groot somewhere down the road in the cinematic universe.
Ghost Rider 76245
Data on Amazon doesn’t look too great. Getting pushed an extra year from the initial rumored retirement might have hurt this set. Regardless, I will be keeping watching this set. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a FAT Walmart discount on these.
Sanctum Sanctorum 76218
Yes, I am interested in this set. This is practically a Marvel Modular building and collectors LOVE having these in their LEGO city builds. It’s a high price point of $250 which will dissuade investors who only go after $20-50 sets. Definitely not my #1 priority but just one that I want to keep an eye out for a good sale in Q4. Definitely would like some to hold.
Not much from the Marvel sets retiring this year. The first two are probably what I am most interested in (Star Lord & Venomised Groot) as I believe they will do well in retirement. Marvel doesn’t do as well as themes like Star Wars or Speed Champions but turning a blind eye to the entire theme is irresponsible. Thor’s hammer was disregarded last year and now it is doing well. There’s a lesson in there. Time will only tell folks.
